The Irish Prison Service (IPS) is responsible for the provision of safe and secure custody, dignity of care and rehabilitation to people in custody for safer communities. The IPS operates as an executive office within the Department of Justice and Equality and is a key component in our country’s Criminal Justice system. It employs some 3,200 uniformed and civilian staff. Currently, the nationwide estate is made up of 12 prisons and a number of other ancillary offices and facilities. Typically, the IPS manages approximately 4,000 people in custody at any one time, both male and female, aged 18 and over. The IPS is seeking to fill vacancies within the ICT Unit at Higher Executive Officer level (Senior Information and Communications Technology Specialists) presenting exciting opportunities for those who want to play a role in delivering the digital transformation programmes of the Government and IPS.  The position(s) to be filled from this campaign offer a unique opportunity to develop a career in ICT within the Civil Service/Irish Prison Service. In addition to the technical dimension associated with any Senior ICT Specialist role, the role will also encompass other activities associated with ICT/digital service delivery such as budget and people management, procurement, compliance, project management, stakeholder engagement, research, and assessment of projects from a feasibility and value for money perspective, etc. The position will require the post holder to engage with staff across all functions and in all of the prisons, including the requirement to visit and work in sites across the estate.
