Permanent, part time position (19.5 hours. Overall Purpose of Job       Responsible for the safe and effective delivery of nursing interventions for guests.  To co-ordinate, support and guide the person-centred approach used by the association to ensure full and equal inclusion of people with physical disabilities.  To carry out duties as directed by the Centre Manager or Service Coordinator.  Liaison For the successful implementation of this role the jobholder needs to establish and maintain good communication with guests, other staff members, other services in IWA and where appropriate external professionals. Close liaison with the Centre Manager or Service Coordinator is essential.  Main Duties and Responsibilities To ensure that all decisions and activities support the empowerment of people with disabilities. Be familiar with the medical and clinical requirements of the guest. To assess and plan nursing and clinical interventions and supports for guests in line with the Association’s Policy and Procedures. To safely and effectively carry out nursing interventions for named guests To carry out medication management support and clinical tasks for the guests as discussed  and identified with the guest, the service manager and the National Medication Manager. Be competent and experienced  in the individual clinical tasks required for a named service user. To delegate to and supervise non nursing / personal assistants in providing safe supports and  interventions  for guests  including medication management and clinical tasks. Monitor and evaluate  the service on an ongoing basis and update the service manager. Be flexible and responsive to the changing needs of the guest. Report any concerns to the GP or health care professional as appropriate in consultation with the guest and take appropriate action to support the guest. Report any concerns to the  Service Manager in consultation with the guest. Be familiar with the Association’s Medication Management and Clinical task  Policy and  comply with relevant protocols  and procedures. To maintain appropriate records and check lists in line with the Association’s Policy and Procedures. To support efficient use of resources To ensure reasonable care is taken for the health and safety of yourself other employees and guests. Comply with the Irish Wheelchair Association’s Code of Conduct for employees. Comply with the Association’s  Policy  for Registered Nurses. Comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland’s code of conduct. Comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland’s scope of practice. Provide a copy  of annual NMBI registration  to line manager each year. Complete a Safety Access Certificate each year and provide to line manager. Maintain confidentiality. Actively develop knowledge and skills through  continuous  professional development. Be available for training and clinical updates as appropriate. Carry out other duties that may be assigned to you, in the best interest of the guest, by the Centre Manager or Service Coordinator.  PERSON SPECIFICATION Training, Experience and Qualifications Professional Qualification in Nursing and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland is a must. Minimum of 5 years’ post registration clinical  experience is required. Experience of delegating and supervising   student nurses, junior  nursing staff and non nursing staff is desirable. Experience of  working as part of a multidisciplinary team is desirable. Experience of working with people with disabilities is desirable.  Knowledge and Skills Strong communication, creativity, problem solving and decision-making skills. Excellent negotiation and influencing skills. An awareness and understanding of the needs of people with physical, sensory and communication difficulties would be an advantage.  Behaviours The ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
